Artist’s Statement:
I use my camera as a painter would use a sketchpad to capture quickly a visual idea. Then, I take the image to my digital darkroom, refining it and exploring the possibilities of how to present it to the viewer. Some work is “as shot” straight from the camera while other work may include extensive post-processing. I prefer to work in black and white because it offers a great deal of creative freedom along every step of the process from exposure to printing. In terms of pure visual enjoyment, black and white provides the beauty of tonal values that so richly express the play of light and shadow – shades of grey and deep blacks and bright whites. Photography challenges me to "see" as well as look, to turn the mundane into art, and to find new ways of presenting the world around me.
